Confronting breast cancer with knowledge, support and hope

Sharing & Caring is a patient-driven volunteer network committed to helping breast cancer survivors on their journey to recovery.

A breast cancer diagnosis initiates an avalanche of questions and worries. The newly diagnosed patient may not know what to do or where to turn. Sharing & Caring offers education and support for breast cancer patients and their families at the time of diagnosis, during treatment and beyond. All are welcome and services are free of charge.

The Sharing & Caring offices are located in the Wilson Cancer Resource Center at the Beaumont Medical Center, Sterling Heights (across the bridge from Beaumont, Troy).

Knowledge Nights

A continuing education forum which meets several times quarterly in the evening. A physician, therapist or other health care professional speaks briefly on issues of interest to breast cancer patients followed by informal group discussion. You are welcome to bring questions for the speakers or others in the group, or you can merely observe.

Newly Diagnosed Notebook

Sharing & Caring has developed a comprehensive treatment guidebook to assist patients through their initial steps to recovery. If you haven’t received one from your surgeon, please call us or stop by our office to pick one up.

Support Services for the Newly Diagnosed

Peer-to-peer counseling, group support and special events through the year offer opportunities for continuing education and interaction with other survivors, including:

Annual Educational Symposium

This event brings together internationally recognized breast cancer experts and researchers for a day of presentations, Q & A and camaraderie in a comfortable, friendly setting.  Joining together for refreshments or a light meal allows survivors to get to know one another and realize they are not alone on their journey.

Sharing & Caring acts as a referring agency to other community programs and services such as psychological counseling, prosthetics, genetics counseling and more.
