Beaumont Health is pleased to announce the following recognitions:

O’Malley recipient of Oakland University’s ‘Odyssey Award’

Connie O’Malley, president, Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills, received Oakland University’s “Odyssey Award.” The award honors alumni whose lives exemplify the university’s motto to “seek virtue and knowledge.” O’Malley earned her bachelor’s in nursing from Oakland in 1983. Each year the university honors outstanding alumni who have achieved success in business, community services and volunteerism.

Kilanowski to serve as Michigan Radiological Society’s president

Stephen Kilanowski, M.D., a radiologist with Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, was elected the 97th president of the Michigan Radiological Society and will serve as the organization’s youngest president. The society promotes and advances the science of Radiology and maintains the highest standards of radiological practice. The Michigan Radiological Society is the state chapter of the American College of Radiology.

Priskorn to receive GDAHC’s ‘Breakthrough Award’

Betty Priskorn, vice president of Community Health and Outreach, Beaumont Health, will receive the Greater Detroit Area Health Council’s “Breakthrough Award.” She is cited for numerous successful community health initiatives including the launch of 13 Beaumont Healthy Communities – a collective impact initiative that partners with community leaders, schools, residents and others to improve health and wellness. Today, more than 800 individuals sit on Healthy Community Coalitions that develops services and programming to address the priority health needs of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.  Current offerings includes fitness programs in the community for all ages, school nutrition and activity programs, health screenings, cooking classes, bike lanes, a bike rental program, neighborhood walking groups, a walking app with rewards and diabetes programs.

Beaumont’s Proton Therapy team wins ‘Excellence in Care Award’ from Hour Media

Radiation oncologists, Peyman Kabolizadeh, M.D., Ph.D., and Craig Stevens, M.D., Ph.D., were honored with a 2018 “Excellence in Care” Award by Hour Detroit magazine at their “Top Docs” celebration in Detroit. Each health system in Metro Detroit was invited to submit a unique medical case. Beaumont highlighted the care of Tracy Clifford, who traveled from Northern California, to be treated with proton therapy at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak for a rare cancer called sacral chordoma.

Communications and Marketing team receive three IABC Awards

Beth Montalvo and Christian Furmanski won two International Association of Business Communicators awards for their story, “Dearborn team brings couple together to say goodbye.” They were recipients of the IABC Heritage Region’s Silver Quill Award of Merit and the IABC Detroit Renaissance Award of Excellence. In addition, the “Living Well: Preventing and Managing Diabetes” event earned an IABC Detroit Renaissance Award of Merit for Mark Geary,  Stephanie Gonyea, Melissa Thrasher, Janet Todd, Zak Walsh and Joe Wesolek.

Healthy Dearborn wins KaBOOM grant for play space

Healthy Dearborn, a community initiative created by Beaumont Health,” recently was named a winner of KaBOOM’s Play Everywhere Challenge. The $63,000 gift will transform a vacant lot on Graham Street into a landscaped play space for children and families. KaBOOM is a national nonprofit, supported by the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation, dedicated to giving all kids the childhood they deserve through safe places to play.

Beaumont Health earns MarCom awards

Beaumont Health’s Marketing and Communications team was recognized for excellence in print media placement, digital media, strategic communication and an integrated marketing campaign by MarCom. The team won three platinum and four gold awards. The platinum winning entries included the New Exceptional Families Autism Center; HouseCall Podcast and women’s health campaign, “Women don’t quit. We don’t either.”
