Beaumont Children’s announces $1 million funding from CMNH

Thursday, April 14, 2016

beau-unveiling-cmn For almost 30 years, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals has supported programs for children at Beaumont Health System.  Now, with the formation of Beaumont Health, the reach of this partnership is expanding for the first time to support Beaumont Children’s programs across Metro Detroit. On April 15, Beaumont Children’s announced $1 million in Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals funding for pediatric programs at Beaumont Health’s hospitals, through a series of events held in Royal Oak, Troy and Dearborn.

“With the generous support of CMN Hospitals, we have been able to fund programs, expertise and equipment to provide children with the compassionate, extraordinary medical care they deserve,” said Brian Berman, M.D., pediatrician-in-chief of Beaumont Children’s.  “This latest round of funding allows us to advance medical care for children in more locations than ever before.”

Children's Miracle Network Hospitals is a national charity that works with 170 children's hospitals across the U.S. and Canada. The group ensures that when a donation is made, it stays in the community, so that every dollar given goes to help local children. With the latest round of giving, CMN Hospitals becomes the first fundraising program to impact all eight hospitals of Beaumont Health.

“Since 1988, CMN Hospitals campaigns have raised $64 million for Beaumont Children’s, becoming the largest donor in Beaumont Health’s history,” said Margaret Cooney Casey, Beaumont Health senior vice president and chief development officer. “We are proud to increase the visibility of our CMNH partnership through the placement of Beau the Bear statues at four of the major facilities where we serve children.  They will greet visitors and patients when they come for care.”

The four, 6-foot tall, CMN Hospitals Beau the Bear statues will be placed at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak; Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn; Beaumont Hospital, Troy and the Beaumont Health Center in Royal Oak.  The bears were created by Prop Art Studio in Detroit and are made of lightweight foam coated in hard shell plastic and resin.  A smiling Beau waves and proudly stands by the CMN Hospitals Miracle Balloon icon.  Beau the Bear has been a friendly Beaumont Children’s mascot for more than seven years.

The statue unveiling events are scheduled for April 15 at Beaumont, Royal Oak; April 18 at Beaumont, Troy; April 19 at Beaumont, Dearborn; and April 20 at Beaumont Health Center on Coolidge in Royal Oak.

The success of the Beaumont Health/CMN Hospitals partnership relies greatly on the generosity of others.  In addition to the generous support of Beaumont team members through an annual employee giving campaign, and donations from individuals in the community, many corporate sponsors reach out to their employees and consumers through fun promotions, generating large donations gathered one dollar at a time. These corporate sponsors include: Costco, Rite Aid, Speedway, Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club, Dairy Queen, Kroger, Ace Hardware and RE/MAX.

Through CMN Hospitals funding, Beaumont Health is able to treat the entire child – emotionally and physically.  Some of the programs and equipment supported through the $1 million in funding announced during the Beau the Bear unveiling events include:
