A 30-year resident of Farmington Hills, Kim Guesman, RN, has been named chief nursing officer at the hospital where she has served for that length of time. She leads a nursing staff of 1,150. Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills President Connie O’Malley, RN, and Beaumont Health Chief Nursing Officer Susan Grant, DNP, RN, announced Guesman’s promotion. She jointly reports to both executives.

kimberly-guesman“Kim served as our interim chief nursing officer for the past five months. In that time, she exhibited strong leadership and commitment to safety, quality and service as well as a continued vision of Beaumont, Farmington Hills achieving Magnet status,” said O’Malley. “I am thrilled to have Kim as a permanent member of my executive leadership team.”

Magnet programs are viewed worldwide as the ultimate seal of quality and confidence, superior nursing processes and quality patient care, leading to the highest levels of safety, quality and patient satisfaction.

“Kim has provided strong leadership to the Beaumont Professional Nurse Council and developed the first nursing strategic plan for the Farmington Hills hospital,” said Grant. “She also implemented a new automated rounding tool, initiated the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators submission for the hospital and created a mentoring program for new nurses to ensure success of their on-boarding and long-term retention. These are all key steps in creating a professional practice environment and ensuring the best patient care possible. We are very excited that Kim has accepted this role!”

Her previous service to the hospital includes director of Nursing Services for medical-surgical, critical care and progressive care units, as well as noninvasive cardiology, house supervision, staffing office and nursing education. She also served as manager of cardiology services, critical care, cardiac catheterization lab and cardiac rehabilitation for many years and was a clinical nurse specialist for seven years before moving into other leadership positions.

Guesman received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, West Virginia and her Master of Science in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh. She is also a board-certified nurse executive through the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
