Beaumont's pediatric urologists have advanced fellowship training that prepares them to work exclusively with infants, children and adolescents. Our department director, Dr. Evan Kass, leads the team. Dr. Kass has consistently been named on the “Best Doctor in Detroit” and “Best Doctor in America” lists.

Each year, Dr. Kass and his colleagues perform approximately 1,200 surgeries at the family-centered, child-friendly Ghesquiere Family Center for Children’s Surgery.

A less invasive approach

Whenever possible, we choose minimally invasive surgical procedures for the children we treat. These procedures help prevent unnecessary tissue disruption and help speed healing. The laparoscopic approach also allows for less complications compared to traditional, open surgery.

Urologic conditions treated

Our skilled pediatric urologists diagnose and treat urologic conditions, such as:

  • hernia and hydroceles
  • hydronephrosis
  • hypospadias and chordee
  • posterior urethral valves (PUV)
  • undescended testicle
  • varicocele
  • vesicoureteral reflux (VUR)
  • voiding problems
Less common conditions include:
  • bladder exstrophy
  • prune belly (Eagle-Barret Syndrome)
