Integrative Medicine MD Consultation

Together we can develop a personalized plan for you

Let's develop a personalized plan together

What is an integrative medicine MD consultation?

Integrative medicine focuses on finding the root cause of health concerns and partnering with patients and their primary care providers to determine how best to support the journey to health and wholeness. The first priority during a consultation with an MD is to understand all that is unique about you - from goals and motivation, to current health status and physiology, to the context leading up to and surrounding your life today. Together we will identify not only your challenges, but also your many strengths, so that we can leverage these to help you achieve your goals.

We will then develop a personalized plan that may involve: further diagnostic testing, lifestyle modifications, addition of select targeted supplements and/or the use of adding traditional medicine or complementary modalities. Our recommendations are informed by evidence from medical literature, with close attention to safety and efficacy.

Integrative medicine offers face-to-face and telemedicine MD consultations.

Dr. Hugo Davila Grijalva

Dr. Hugo Davila Grijalva was born and raised in Quito, Ecuador, a small, beautiful country in South America. He attended medical school at the Pontifical Catholic University of Ecuador, in Quito. During his last year of medical school, Dr. Davila worked and trained in various hospitals around the country, both public and private. His rotations included practicing in a large, public, underfunded tertiary care pediatric center, a busy OB/GYN based public hospital, a well-equipped community hospital funded by International donations in the Amazon region, and a private, top of the line hospital in Quito. Of these, the latter was run by American physicians. The knowledge and compassion exhibited by the American doctors inspired Dr. Davila to come to the United States to pursue further training.

In 2010, shortly after graduating from medical school, Dr. Davila came to the United States in order to become a practicing American physician. He joined the Internal Medicine-Pediatrics (Med/Peds) residency program at Beaumont Health in Royal Oak. During his last year of residency, while serving as chief resident, he worked in the Integrative Medicine department, an experience which would inspire him to apply to the Integrative Medicine Fellowship program with the University of Arizona, which he completed in February 2020. In July 2018, Integrative Medicine welcomed Dr. Davila as a regular member of the physician team, providing him with the opportunity to combine his passion for integrative health care with his current role as a Hospitalist. He became Board Certified in Integrative Medicine in June 2020.

Dr. Davila’s previous experience includes practicing in a busy primary care office in the Grosse Pointe area, working as a physician for a college soccer team in Ecuador and serving as the on-board doctor on a cruise ship on the Amazon River. He has done research on breast feeding and on the benefits of breastfeeding in the prevention of asthma and eczema. In addition to being a skilled, compassionate physician, Dr. Davila is a Reiki practitioner and has acted as a volunteer on behalf of Integrative Medicine facilitating Reiki for patients and their family members in the hospital setting. Dr. Davila is also passionate about physician well-being which has lead him to work closely with the Beaumont Center for Mindfulness.

Dr. Uma Senthikumar

Dr. Uma Senthilkumar grew up in southern India, where she completed her medical degree in Siddha Medicine (Traditional Indian Herbal System of Medicine) with parallel training in Yoga, Nutrition, and Master level in Reiki Therapy.

The joy of practicing medicine inspired Dr. Senthilkumar to pursue a conventional medical degree and received her Doctor of Medicine degree from St. Matthew’s University in Grand Cayman. She completed her Family Medicine residency at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia.

Dr. Senthilkumar lived, worked, and attended university in India, Ireland, Cayman Islands, and the U.S. She feels the multicultural exposure was rewarding on both professional and personal levels.

Holistic health was Dr. Senthilkumar’s focus during her medical training, which motivated her to pursue a fellowship in Integrative Medicine. Dr. Senthilkumar believes, “that the sustenance of healthcare and health of the population requires an integrative approach. It is true that each of us is different with a unique physiology and genetic makeup. We need to avoid the one-size-fits-all approach and take time and care to develop a plan that will be right for each individual. With an integrative approach, we can get a comprehensive picture of one’s overall health to develop a personalized treatment plan”.

In addition to practicing in Integrative Medicine, Dr. Senthilkumar enjoys treating patients in a Primary Care office where her focus is chronic disease management, preventive medicine, and “Pharmacy to Farmacy” with culinary medicine concepts.

She is an active member of the American Association of Family Physicians, the American Board of Family Medicine, Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine, and the American Medical Association.

Dr. Senthilkumar is fluent in English, Tamil, and Telugu languages.
