Preparing for Knee or Hip Surgery

Our orthopedic pre-admission education class, offered in-person or online, is designed for individuals scheduled for hip or knee replacement surgery at Beaumont hospitals in Royal Oak, Troy and Grosse Pointe.

Attend a free class, presented by representatives from orthopedic nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy and care management who specialize in the care of total joint replacement patients.

At the class, you will learn:

  • how to prepare for surgery
  • what to expect during your stay at the hospital
  • what your recovery needs may be at home

Whether attending the class or viewing the online version, you are encouraged to bring a friend or family member to the class or view the online class together. We recommend completing this class approximately four weeks before your surgery.

It is mandatory that surgical patients attend class in-person or online. If you are unable to attend class or complete the online class or if you have further questions, please call 248-898-9370.

In the online class, you will learn how to prepare for your surgery, what to expect during your hospital stay and what your recovery plan will involve. The video portion of the online class is approximately 30 minutes long.
