For medical questions, simple and complex, many people turn to Google, which doesn’t always result in the right answers or reliable advice. That’s one reason why Nick Gilpin, D.O., and Asha Shajahan, M.D., are hosting a new podcast entitled, “Beaumont HouseCall,” to talk about topics their patients ask them about every day.

The podcasts will feature the physicians discussing a variety of health issues with Beaumont doctors and experts from across the system.

Dr. Gilpin is Beaumont, Grosse Pointe’s chief medical officer. He’s a board-certified infectious disease and internal medicine physician.

“I have a passion for all things science and medicine. I love to golf, collect vinyl LPs, read and travel to new places,” Dr. Gilpin said. “I’m excited to be able to share my medical expertise through the podcast.”

Dr. Shajahan is Beaumont, Grosse Pointe’s Community Health Medical Director and a board-certified family medicine physician.

“I believe in natural therapies for wellness and empowering my patients to combine art and medicine to create healthier lifestyles,” Dr. Shajahan said. “I’m looking forward to talking about health topics on the podcast in an entertaining and informative way.”

Initial podcast topics include:

  • Infectious diseases (Zika, Hepatitis A, vaccinations and autism, antibiotic resistance)
  • Community Health (How does your zip code impact your life expectancy? Why do sidewalks and health clinics in your neighborhood matter?)
  • Proton Therapy (What is it? Who can benefit from it? Featuring: Craig Stevens, M.D., Ph.D.)
  • Orthopedics (How to treat & prevent sports injuries, new technologies/surgeries. Featuring:  Shariff Bishai, D.O.)
  • The Loneliness Epidemic (What you need to know about social media, shut-ins and teenagers. Featuring: Betty Priskorn, VP Community Health Outreach)

The podcasts are available on Beaumont.org, iTunes, Stitcher, SoundCloud and Google Play beginning May 22 and will be on Spotify shortly. Search for “Beaumont HouseCall.”

The podcasts are an extension of Beaumont’s monthly HouseCall e-newsletter.
