Corewell Health: The new name for Beaumont. Here to make health better.

Opioid abuse is a nationwide epidemic. Unused opioids can get into the community and have devastating effects.

Opioids, sometimes called narcotics, are pain medications used to control severe pain. Your pain medication prescriptions will come with details about usage and side effects. All medications should be stored away from children and minors.

Common opioids include Norco, Percocet, Hycet and Oxycontin.

Please dispose of any unused opioids promptly. Drop off your unused opioids at participating police stations or at one of the organizations listed below.

We recommend that you call and verify that the site accepts disposals before planning your trip.

  • The United States makes up less than five percent of the world’s population, but consumes 80 percent of the world opioid supply.
  • Seventy percent of the people who misuse opioids got them from a friend or family member.
  • You are more likely to become a chronic opioid user following surgery than you are to develop a blood clot, infection or heart attack.
