WHY DO I NEED A MAMMOGRAM?

A mammogram is an X-ray examination of the breast. It is used to detect and diagnose breast disease in women who either have breast problems such as a lump, pain, or nipple discharge, as well as for women who have no breast complaints.

A mammogram is currently the most effective method of detecting breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable stages. It is a safe, low-dose X-ray examination of the breast. We offer patients leading-edge mammography services, including digital mammography, 3-D mammography (tomosynthesis), breast ultrasound, MRI and more.

Beaumont recommends mammograms for women age 40 and older. Talk with your Beaumont doctor about how often you should have a mammogram.
