Hospital to team up with public safety departments to prevent injury

Beaumont Health is again reaching out to promote safety in the community.

Beaumont Hospital, Dearborn is the latest Beaumont Health location to host a community safety day. These events help educate residents about how to stay safe in their homes, on their bikes or in their cars. The idea grew from recent successful events held at hospitals in Trenton and Wayne.

safety-dayThe event will take place at the Beaumont Physical Therapy & Wellness Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. Events and activities will feature:

  • fire trucks and equipment display from the Dearborn fire and police departments
  • a K-9 demonstration
  • driving simulator
  • bike safety demonstrations and bike helmet fittings
  • concussion awareness
  • general health and fitness information
  • Beaumont One helicopter
  • children’s fingerprinting/ID kits, and more

“We want to reach out to the community and provide information about how to prevent injuries before they occur,” said Scott Stockinger, trauma injury prevention coordinator, Beaumont, Dearborn. “We also want to encourage residents of all ages to stay safe and show them the many services we provide here.”

There will also be free health screenings and hourly giveaways.

Beaumont Hospital, Wayne held its first community safety day on Aug. 10 alongside western Wayne county public safety departments. Beaumont, Trenton’s event took place in May.

“We are looking forward to our first community safety day and we already have so many ideas for next year,” said Stockinger.
