Episode Overview
Sepsis is a life-threatening medical emergency that affects 1.7 million Americans. Unfortunately, fewer than 15% of U.S. adults can readily identify the symptoms. The best treatment is timely recognition and timely management.
On this episode of the HouseCall Podcast, Dr. Gilpin invites Dr. Paul Bozyk, pulmonary and critical care expert, and Jennifer Pipta, a sepsis coordinator, to shed some light on sepsis – the signs, symptoms and, most importantly, early recognition
and treatment.
Sepsis, the bodies overzealous response to an infection, can be a severe life-threatening emergency. Almost any infection can potentially lead to sepsis. If not treated promptly, sepsis can trigger a cascade of inflammation that leads to organ damage and even death. Fortunately, with early recognition and management, sepsis is highly treatable. Know the signs and symptoms of sepsis. If you or a loved one is experiencing an infection and things are getting worse, be sure to get prompt medical care immediately.
