Beaumont Hospital, Wayne will host its second annual Family Safety Awareness Day from 2-6 p.m., on Wednesday, July 19. Similar to events held at Beaumont hospitals in Taylor, Trenton, Troy and Dearborn, the event will offer safety-related exhibits, teach accident prevention and highlight community services. Wayne Mayor Susan Rowe, 11th District Wayne County Commissioner Al Haidous, who is a former Wayne mayor, and Beaumont, Wayne President Eric Widner will speak about the historic significance of the hospital, which is celebrating its 60th anniversary.

“Last year’s inaugural event showed us that this is an excellent way to interact with the community in a positive way,” said Widner. “This is as much about promoting safety as it is highlighting the world-class services we offer.”

The free event will include ambulance tours, a bicycle obstacle course, child identification kits, a driving simulator, a fire safety obstacle course, gun safety, helicopter tours, a fire safety smokehouse, a shooting simulator, stranger danger and water safety. The outdoor event will be held on the grounds of Beaumont Hospital, Wayne located at 33155 Annapolis Street -- the nearest main street is Venoy Road.

Representatives from public safety agencies will be there to answer questions and offer vehicle tours and equipment demonstrations, including the Department of Natural Resources, fire departments, K-9 units, LifeFlight of Michigan, Michigan Search and Rescue, police departments, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Fur Angels Pet Therapy Group.

There will be bike helmet giveaways while supplies last from 2-4 p.m. and a 5:30 p.m. bike raffle.

Event coordinator Adrienne Gall, a Beaumont, Wayne, Emergency and Trauma Center specialist, said more than 35 vendors will be present.

“We had a great success with this event last year,” she said. “With the hospital celebrating its 60th anniversary, we wanted to expand it this year.”
