Beaumont Health names Carolyn Wilson as chief operating officer

Monday, December 07, 2015

Beaumont Health President and CEO John T. Fox has announced the appointment of Carolyn Wilson, RN, MBA, as executive vice president and chief operating officer for Beaumont Health.

In this position, Wilson will ensure systematic, coordinated operations and patient care across Beaumont Health’s eight hospitals, helping the organization to deliver on its mission of providing compassionate, extraordinary care every day. Wilson will report to Fox and will be a member of the Beaumont Health executive team. She joins Beaumont Health on Jan. 18, 2016.

“Carolyn is an accomplished senior health care executive with an impressive 30 years of experience in leading health care systems and physician organizations,” says Fox. “Her knowledge and expertise in health system integration and in building a results-oriented team will advance us toward our vision of being the leading high-value health care network.”

Wilson comes to Beaumont Health from Fairview Health Services in Minneapolis, an award-winning nonprofit health care system comprised of the University of Minnesota Medical Center, five community hospitals, nearly 100 primary and specialty care clinics, 53 senior housing locations and 30-plus retail pharmacies, employing more than 21,000 health professionals.

At Fairview, Wilson served as executive vice president and chief operating officer overseeing operations of UMMC, community hospitals and specialty clinics, shared clinical services, system facility services, home care, long-term care and hospice. She also served as president of UMMC and co-president of University of Minnesota Health, reporting to the CEO of Fairview and the University of Minnesota Health Board.

Before joining Fairview, Wilson held a series of increasingly-responsible positions at the University of Chicago and University of Chicago Medical Center from 1998-2011. She served as UCMC chief operating officer and associate dean, vice president for faculty practice administration, chief operating officer for the University of Chicago Practice Plan and director of managed care operations.

Earlier in her career, she was an executive at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Illinois, and spent eight years in a series of director positions with responsibility for operations, infection control, quality management and nursing education at Oak Park and Westlake Hospitals in Illinois. Wilson began her health care career as a staff nurse for general medical and infectious disease patients at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center in Grand Rapids, and then worked at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, with a focus on infectious disease.

She earned a master’s in business administration from Benedictine University, a Bachelor of Science in nursing at Rush University and a nursing diploma from Blodgett.

Wilson has served on the Metro Governing Council of the American Hospital Association and on the University HealthSystem Consortium Academic Medical Center Affinity Board of Managers.
