What is "Moonbeams for Sweet Dreams"?
“Moonbeams for Sweet Dreams,” is a new program created by the
Beaumont Children’s Pediatric Family Advisory Council at Beaumont
Hospital, Royal Oak.
At 8 p.m. every evening in December, pediatric patients will shine flashlights from the hospital windows and look for community members standing outside the hospital to flash them back.
“Many children are unable to leave their rooms and can feel isolated in the hospital as the rest of the world continues without them,” Beaumont Children’s Child Life Supervisor Kathleen Grobbel said. “With the help of the community, we can make sure they go to bed with smiles on their faces.”
On behalf of Beaumont Children’s and the Pediatric Family Advisory Council, we would like to thank you for your support of “Moonbeams for Sweet Dreams.” A resounding triumph, more than 10,000 community members shared a sweet good night with more than 700 children throughout the month of December.
Parents of hospitalized children were brought to tears upon seeing the number of people who stood in the cold to express their genuine care and concern. The beautiful community gesture brought delight, giggles and wonder to children during a difficult time in their lives and showed that no one is alone who has community. You donated your time and talent, shivered in the cold, sang songs, brought joy, met friends and sparkled in the night. You soared beyond medicine, sharing the love of a community to heal spirits.
It is difficult to express how much your gesture meant to the children, families and staff at Beaumont, so we will share the words of one parent, "To all my friends that are heading to Beaumont, do not think for one second that bundling up in the freezing cold isn't making a difference. Bringing this joy to my son and his Mama while in the hospital is a gift that means more than you will ever know. God Bless. So much love and thanks to this amazing village."
May you continue to shine your light through the New Year and carry the Moonbeams spirit throughout 2018. We look forward to seeing you again in December!
