Patients who have an ostomy need both physical and emotional care. The nurse practitioners at the Ostomy Clinic will provide that support for adults and children to help patients and caregivers learn to live with their ostomy. Common issues like fear of leaking, uncertainty about the pouching system and problems related to stoma can be dealt with in the clinic. The Ostomy Clinic can also help you with:

  • stoma site marking before your operation
  • post-op follow up care
  • education about your stoma
  • management of skin complications around your stoma
  • advice on what kind of pouching system is right for you
  • counseling on how to prevent constipation if you have a colostomy
  • advice on continent urinary diversions 
  • counseling on diet, including what foods to eat or avoid
  • finding support groups, sexual and vocational counseling
