Beaumont Health offers a variety of classes for the expectant and new parent, from childbirth education to caring for your newborn once they arrive. The class offerings below are either in person, virtual, or web-based independent studies that can be taken at your convenience. For the online classes, be sure to select the location closest to where you live.


Childbirth

Childbirth Education (Online Independent Study and Virtual)


Beaumont's childbirth classes empower the pregnant mother and her support person to feel more confident during labor and birth. Topics include pregnancy, birth and postpartum information including comfort measures for labor and the role of the support person. For your convenience, we offer the Childbirth Education class either as a web-based, independent study or a virtual class.



Natural Birth Workshop


The goal of Beaumont’s Natural Birth Workshop is to provide you and your support person with the knowledge and skills you need for a natural birth experience. The workshop will increase your confidence and assist you in developing a personal plan for your baby's birth. This is a "hands-on" class will help you work with your body to increase comfort, enhance the birth process and decrease or eliminate the need for pain medications.



HypnoBirthing® - The Mongan Method


HypnoBirthing® - The Mongan Method is as much a philosophy of childbirth as it is a technique for achieving a satisfying, relaxing and stress-free method of birthing. HypnoBirthing ® - The Mongan Method teaches the mother and support person techniques for safe and satisfying birth through guided imagery, visualization and special breathing.

MOMease is designed to provide support through fitness and wellness in a variety of different ways to women who are considering pregnancy, currently pregnant or new mothers.



Breastfeeding

Understanding Breastfeeding


This class is great for expectant moms, and their support person, who want to learn more about initiating breastfeeding and nursing during the first few weeks. Beaumont's breastfeeding specialists discuss getting breastfeeding started, the nutritional value of breast milk, anatomy of the breast, positioning, latching, the support person’s role in nursing, problem solving, resources and more.



Understanding Breastfeeding (online Independent Study)


For your convenience, Beaumont offers you this online breastfeeding education program. The web-based, independent study teaches expectant moms, and their support person, about initiating breastfeeding and nursing during the first few weeks. Topics include getting breastfeeding started, the nutritional value of breast milk, anatomy of the breast, positioning, the support person’s role in nursing, problem solving, resources and more.



Parenting

Understanding Your Newborn (Online Independent Study and Virtual)


This one-session class is for adults caring for newborns during the first six weeks of life. During the class, a Beaumont nurse discusses baby's characteristics, holding, bathing, feeding, diapering, burping, crying, sleeping, illness and safety concerns. For your convenience, we offer this one-session Understanding Your Newborn class either as a web-based, independent study or a virtual class.



CPR for Family and Friends


The Family & Friends CPR course teaches the lifesaving skills of adult Hands-Only® CPR, child CPR with breaths, adult and child Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use, infant CPR and relief of choking in an adult, child or infant. Family & Friends CPR is for people who want to learn CPR but do not need a course completion card in CPR for their job.
