The Guardian Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) is a personal response system available in Michigan which links you to 24-hour assistance. Push the personal help button to activate the system. The communicator allows you to talk with an operator at the Guardian Emergency Response Center who can dispatch assistance.

How big is the Guardian button?

It's a small button that weighs less than an ounce.

Do you wear it?

Yes, you can wear it as a necklace or around the wrist like a watch. It's completely waterproof, so you can wear it in the shower or bath where many accidents occur.

Do you need batteries?

The button contains a tiny battery that lasts up to five years. When the battery is low, a signal is sent to Guardian.

Does the button work everywhere?

The personal help button will work throughout most homes and in many yards.

How much for Guardian?

You can rent Guardian for a monthly charge plus a one-time installation fee. Call 1-800-328-2241 Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to have an application mailed to you.

Older Adult Services offers a subsidized program for older adults who have:

  • a low income
  • limited assets
  • a Beaumont doctor or use hospital services
  • live alone or with a spouse

An application must be completed and returned with the first month's rental fee. Beaumont Home Medical Equipment offers a full-fee Guardian PERS unit to anyone in the community. An installation fee and first month's rent are collected at the time of installation.
