The Beaumont Concussion Clinic offers comprehensive, specialized acute care for children and adults who experience a concussion. Located in the Neuroscience Center on the campus of
Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital, the center is staffed by experienced neuroscience professionals who provide prompt, expert care in an outpatient setting.
Family members of those who may have experienced a concussion in the past one week can access the clinic staff via a 24-hour hotline - 855-469-4323. The clinic attempts to schedule new patients within
72 hours of initial injury.
Knowing the signs and symptoms of a concussion and when to seek medical attention is very important. Symptoms may be quite subtle, such as feeling a little funny, or briefly "seeing
stars" or "bright lights." The majority of people who suffer from a consussion do not lose consciousness, typical signs and symptoms include:
- confusion
- disorientation
- dizziness
- headaches
- loss of balance
- nausea/vomiting
- slurred speech
- double vision
- memory loss surrounding the injury
- feeling sluggish, hazy, foggy, or groggy
Children and adults with a suspected concussion should be evaluated by a medical professional trained in concussion management. They should not return to sport or other physical activities until medically cleared. neuroscience clinician within 72 hours
