After 41 years as a physician and 30 years with Beaumont Health, Dr. Leslie Rocher, senior vice president and chief medical officer at Beaumont, Royal Oak, has announced his desire to retire from his leadership roles at Beaumont and the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine. He will retire in the spring of 2020.

Throughout his career, he has helped mentor numerous physicians and staff who will continue to carry on his legacy. We will sincerely miss him,” Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak President Nancy Susick, RN, said.

Dr. Rocher joined Beaumont Health System in 1989 as chief of Nephrology and Transplant programs and subsequently served as chair of Internal Medicine and its residency program director. His medical career has focused on the care of patients with organ transplants and chronic kidney disease, clinical research, medical education and the creation of systems for better patient care. Dr. Rocher also serves as the associate dean of OUWB and professor of internal medicine. 

Dr. Rocher has had leadership roles in many professional organizations including the National Kidney Foundation and the American Society of Transplant Physicians. He has received numerous awards, including election to Alpha Omega Alpha; the Upjohn Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Transplantation; Beaumont Hospitals’ Teacher of the Year award; listings in Top Doctors in America; and Metro Detroit Top Doctors; the National Kidney Foundation Champion of Hope; the Beaumont Physician Leadership Award, and the American College of Physicians’ Michigan Chapter Laureate Award.

I have also truly enjoyed working with him throughout my career,” Beaumont Health Chief Medical Officer Dr. David Wood said, “We are immediately launching a search for a new chief medical officer at Beaumont, Royal Oak, beginning with many strong physician leaders within our health system who would be excellent candidates for this critical leadership role.”
