Community invited to attend October coffee events hosted by Beaumont
Beaumont's cancer research team is inviting area residents to learn about cancer research studies over coffee at one of three Beaumont hospitals in Dearborn, Royal Oak or Troy during October.
The free, educational program will address:
- What are the pros and cons of participating in a cancer research program?
- What is a clinical trial?
- Where are clinical trials being offered?
- How can I find local and national clinical research studies?
- When should you consider participating in a research study?
- How does Beaumont engage diverse populations in medical research?
No registration is required to attend.
“Join us for complimentary coffee and information,” said Diane Townsel, cancer community educator, Beaumont Cancer Clinical Trials Office. “Our team will discuss cancer clinical trials and answer questions. Clinical trials are medical research studies involving people - volunteer participants. The cancer studies usually focus on prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, behavior or quality of life.”
Metro Detroit area residents with cancer, and those throughout Michigan, have access to federally-funded cancer research studies because of a grant awarded to the Beaumont Cancer Institute. Beaumont is one of 34 community sites nationwide participating in the National Cancer Institute's Community Oncology Research Program, also known as NCORP.
