Rose family gift to expand entrance, lobby and patient drop-off area

Along with the construction of the adjoining Proton Therapy Center, Beaumont’s Rose Cancer Center at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak is about to undergo a facelift. The renovation will expand the center’s drop-off area, entrance and lobby.

Most of the project is being funded by a gift from the Rose family. The Rose Cancer Center, named for Lillian and Edward Rose 25 years ago, is home to many cancer programs at Beaumont, Royal Oak. The Rose family has supported the facility, as well as clinical and research-based initiatives, through the years.

While the project will not disrupt patient care, beginning June 25, cancer patients and their families will park on the east side of the building and use the center’s temporary east entrance. Valet parking will be available.

To complete the renovations, South Deck Drive will be closed. All hospital patients and visitors using the South Parking Deck must enter from South Hospital Drive.

“We sincerely thank the Rose family for their extraordinary gift funding the renovation,” said Carolyn Wilson, RN, MBA, chief operating officer, Beaumont Health and interim president of Beaumont, Royal Oak. “When completed, the entrance renovations will improve traffic flow, access, comfort and ultimately the patient experience. We apologize for the temporary inconvenience during construction.”

The renovations will be done in phases, with all work to be completed in December. The project includes:

  • a new, large covered drop-off entry area to protect patients from weather, with expanded lanes
  • new vestibule that opens up the lobby and creates a weather barrier
  • entrance expansion
  • terrazzo corridor flooring from Rose Cancer Center to Imaging Center

“With the Proton Therapy Center opening in the spring of 2017, we thought it an ideal time to tie these facilities together with a unified look and improved access,” added Wilson. “The renovations will provide an updated, welcoming and functional environment for patients and their families. This is part of a larger renovation plan for the Rose Cancer Center.”

The project architect is Neumann Smith and the general contractor is Kasco Construction.
