There is a growing concern about the improper disposal of sharps used by community residents. In response, the Beaumont Medical Center, Macomb Township is offering a sharps drop-off event on Friday, Sept. 9 for proper disposal of needles, syringes and lancets used by residents.
“Sharps, such as needles and syringes, need to be carefully disposed of to prevent any risk of injury or infection for those who encounter them,” said Julie Kitchen, community relations coordinator, Beaumont Health. “This community service event will help ensure that sharps are properly disposed of by trained health care and waste disposal workers.”
All needles, syringes and lancets must be placed in durable containers with lids. Acceptable containers include laundry detergent bottles with caps and coffee cans with lids.
Having secure lids on the containers will help prevent any possible dangerous puncture wounds to workers. Loose needles, syringes and lancets will not be accepted.
This free community service will be offered Friday, Sept. 9, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the northeast parking lot of the Beaumont Medical Center, Macomb Township, 15979 Hall Road. Call Robyn Foster, manager, Environmental Services, at 248-964-2778 for more information.
