The ACS NSQIP program honors 60 hospitals for achieving high-quality outcomes related to patient management, based on 2015 data, in eight clinical areas:
• Mortality
• Unplanned intubation
• Ventilator more than 48 hours
• Renal failure
• Cardiac incidents (cardiac arrest and heart attack)
• Respiratory (pneumonia)
• Surgical site infections
• Urinary tract infections
The ACS NSQIP is the only nationally validated quality improvement program that measures and enhances the care of surgical patients. The program measures the actual surgical results 30 days after surgery. The goal is to reduce surgical infection, illness and death. Evidence has shown that when negative surgical effects are reduced, a reduction in health care costs follows. More than 770 adult and pediatric hospitals use these standards.
“We are proud of the care delivered at Beaumont, Troy by our exceptional staff. We have a great deal of respect for the ACS NSQIP program. It is highly standardized and rigorously reviewed. The American College of Surgeons is a scientific and educational organization of surgeons founded in 1913 to raise the standards of surgical practice and to improve the care of the surgical patient. The ACS has more than 78,000 members and it is the largest organization of surgeons in the world.
