Hospital teams up with public safety departments to prevent injury
Beaumont Health is again reaching out to promote safety in the community.
Beaumont Hospital, Trenton, 5450 Fort St., is hosting its eighth annual “Family Safety Awareness Day” to educate residents about how to stay safe in their homes, on their bikes or in their cars.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 20, and feature:
- adult health screenings
- driving simulator
- bike safety demonstrations and bike helmet fittings
- bicycle giveaways
- meet-and-greets with local public safety departments and a K9 demonstration
- general health and fitness information
- LifeFlight of Michigan helicopter tours
- Jaws of Life demonstration
- children’s fingerprinting/ID kits, and more
“This has been a successful event the past eight years in helping educate the community about safety and awareness,” said Heather Payton, trauma injury prevention coordinator, Beaumont, Trenton. “We want to reach out to the community to not only help them stay safe, but to show them the kind of services we provide here.”
Children will also be able to extinguish a simulated fire with a real fire hose, an obstacle course and earn a raffle ticket for one of four free bikes given away during the event. To be eligible, they’ll have to attend several different safety stations and get their passport initialed. The bikes are provided through donations from Beaumont, Trenton physicians.
All equipment will be open to kids, with staff from the public safety departments on site. Refreshments will be served, too.
