Beaumont Health is pleased to announce the following recognitions recently received by eight employees:

Grant elected president of American Society of Anesthesiologists
James Grant, M.D., chair of Anesthesiology at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, has been elected president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists. Dr. Grant has served as the ASA’s treasurer and on their board of directors since 1999. He also serves as a professor and chair of Anesthesiology at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.

Katzman named ‘Internist of the Year’ by ACOI
Steven Katzman, D.O., an internist affiliated with Beaumont hospitals in Farmington Hills and Royal Oak, has been named “Internist of the Year” by the American College of Osteopathic Internists. The ACOI selected Dr. Katzman for his clinical excellence, impact on osteopathic internal medicine, clinical leadership and bedside teaching excellence.

Graham receives $150,000 research grant from Alzheimer’s Association
Stewart Graham, Ph.D., researcher with Beaumont’s Research Institute, was awarded a three-year, $150,000 grant from the Alzheimer’s Association. He and his research team hope to develop a biochemical test for the early identification of those at greatest risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease before symptoms appear. Based on previous work, they aim to biochemically profile or fingerprint saliva to develop such a test.

Chapo recipient of preceptor award
Peggy Chapo, director, Health Information Management Education, Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills, received a Midwest Interprofessional Practice, Education and Research Center 2017 Outstanding Preceptor Award. She provides support and guidance to future health information management professionals enrolled at Grand Valley State University.

Carlisi named Professional Development chair to MHVRP
Nancy Carlisi, director, Volunteer Services, Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, has been appointed Professional Development chair to the Michigan Healthcare Volunteer Resource Professionals state board of directors. She has been a MHVRP member for 30 years and has previously served on the board as president, president-elect, advisor, Education chair, Education co-chair, Legislative chair and Resource chair.

Hess elected deputy medical director of Health Emergency Medical Services
David Hess, D.O., an emergency medicine physician at Beaumont, Farmington Hills and medical director of Beaumont Mobile Medicine, has been elected as deputy medical director of Health Emergency Medical Services Inc. HEMS is the medical control authority of Western and Downriver Wayne County.

Chinnaiyan chaired annual conference of the Michigan ACC
Kavitha Chinnaiyan, M.D., an integrative cardiologist and director of Advanced Cardiac Imaging Education, Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, served as chair of the recent Michigan American College of Cardiology annual conference, “Bridging Science with Patient Care.”

Hickey awarded scholarship to attend National Fire Protection Agency program
Sarah Hickey, RN, injury prevention coordinator, Trauma Services, Beaumont, Farmington Hills, has been awarded a scholarship to attend the “Remembering When Conference: A Fire and Fall Prevention Program for Older Adults,” sponsored by the National Fire Protection Agency. She will be trained to conduct group presentations and training sessions to prepare additional facilitators to deliver the program to older adults during home visits.
