Beaumont Health President and CEO John T. Fox has announced the appointment of John Kerndl as executive vice president and chief financial officer for Beaumont Health.

Kerndl“John is a proven health care CFO with more than 20 years of experience in finance, budgeting, cost and productivity management, revenue cycle, merger and acquisitions and physician practice management in both for-profit and nonprofit health care,” said Fox.

He will join Beaumont Health’s executive leadership team on Dec. 12.

As CFO, Kerndl will oversee all financial functions and the development and execution of financial policies and strategies for Beaumont Health. His areas of responsibility include financial reporting and analysis; accounting and revenue cycle activity; financial system and internal controls; accounts payable, payroll, treasury, budgeting and forecasting, project financing, financial strategic planning; and strategic investments and investor financial relations.

Kerndl comes to Beaumont Health from his current position as senior vice president and Operations CFO for LifePoint Health in Brentwood, Tennessee, a health care company with 72 hospitals in 22 states and approximately $6.5 billion in net revenue. He has served as CFO of hospital operations since February 2012. His operational responsibilities at LifePoint also include numerous physician practices, home health agencies, skilled nursing facilities, ambulatory surgery centers, assisted living facilities and outpatient diagnostic centers. He joined LifePoint in 2010 as CFO for what was then their largest division comprised of 11 hospitals in four states.

From 2007 to 2010, Kerndl served in CFO and regional vice president roles for three Arizona hospitals as part of Vanguard Health Systems. Before that, he served in various roles, including assistant CEO and CFO, for Community Health Systems in Illinois.

Kerndl also worked as a CFO for North Shore Medical Center in Miami, and as a regional finance director in Atlanta and in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

Along with health care finance, he also has considerable experience in physician practice management. Earlier in his career, he was a practice administrator for Cone Health in Greensboro, North Carolina, and directed the operations of large medical groups in Florida and California.

Kerndl has an MBA in finance and health care administration from the University of Chicago and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Georgia State University.

Originally from Milwaukee, Kerndl and his wife, Mitzi, will be relocating to Michigan in early 2017.
