Community welcome to attend free education program on female chronic pelvic pain and sexual dysfunction featuring Dr. Irwin Goldstein

It is a topic that most women don’t discuss openly with their best friends, partners or health care providers, but an estimated 43 percent experience these chronic conditions daily.  As a result, Beaumont Health’s Women’s Urology Center is bringing the world’s leading expert on sexual health to discuss sexual dysfunction and chronic pelvic pain to Royal Oak for a free community education program.

Irwin Goldstein, M.D., director, San Diego Sexual Medicine and Alvarado Hospital and editor-in-chief, the Journal of Sexual Medicine will join Kenneth Peters, M.D., chief of Urology, Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak and medical director, Beaumont Women’s Urology Center on Thursday, Sept. 8, 6 to 8 p.m. in the administration building at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, 3711 W. 13 Mile Road.

Topics include sexual function, incontinence, interstitial cystitis and chronic pelvic pain - a health condition that impacts one in six women.

Registration is required to attend the free lecture. To register, call 248-551-8765 by Tuesday, Sept. 6. Seating is limited.

"Sharing the stage with Dr. Goldstein is both an honor and privilege. He is a world-renowned physician and researcher, who’s highly respected in the medical community," says Dr. Peters. "Our goal is to encourage open communication about conditions that affect so many women in our community and throughout the country. Women need to know that a variety of treatment options are available."

Dr. Peters specializes in the treatment of voiding dysfunction and female urology. He has performed innovative studies on neuromodulation to treat voiding dysfunction, lumbar to sacral nerve re-routing to restore voiding in spina bifida patients, and injected a patient’s own muscle-derived cells to treat stress urinary incontinence. Dr. Peters is a professor of Urology at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.

Dr. Irwin Goldstein has authored more than 325 publications in the field of sexual dysfunction. He is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, the official journal of the International Society for Sexual Medicine, its regional affiliate societies, and the International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health. Dr. Goldstein is the director of Sexual Medicine at Alvarado Hospital, Clinical Professor of Surgery at University of California at San Diego and director of San Diego Sexual Medicine.
